Points Table 2026

Points 1   8th February 2026  Greenway

Points 1 2026

The first club match of the season was held on Sunday at Greenway with 34 anglers turning out on what was another wet start to the day. Fortunately, the rain cleared off to give the anglers a fair day's fishing. The match was split into 3 sections, namely, low numbers at Sellake, the Swans neck section and Greenway straight.

Outright winner on the day from fancied peg 24 at the bay was Gary Butler with 5.150kg. Gary alternated worm and maggot on a 14 hook at 12 metres and caught 4 really nice tench plus a few small roach on the punch closer in. He used a little ground bait with chopped worm and pinkie to entice the tench and never lost a fish. Big Congrats Gary on a great start to the season !

Runner up from peg 12 was Mark Webber with 3.855kg. Mark fish the entire match down the middle using maggot over ground bait and pinkie feed. He managed to catch loads of small roach and perch plus one really good tench to complete the net. Well done Mark !

Third overall from peg 34 was Russ Hilton with 2.365kg. Russ had a few roach down the track on punch and then switched well across to snare one decent tench on worm over ground bait and pinkie.  Nice one Russ !

4th and 5th spots went to Keith Carpenter and Mark Branson respectively. Keith weighed in with 2.275kg ( peg 13 ) all roach plus 2 skimmers caught on a 5m whip using pinkie over loose fed pinkie whilst Mark had slightly less with 2.200kg ( peg 40 ) comprising a few roach and a last-minute tench caught on worm. Well done lads !

Points 2 2026

Sunday's club match, held on the canal at Westleigh was well supported with 28 club members turning out to do battle. After a wet start, the weather cleared nicely to give everyone at least a pleasant, dry day in terms of comfort but the fishing proved much harder for most, particularly along the road sections. The match was split in to 3 sections, one either side of the road gate with the third pegged in the wooded stretch and it was the latter which gave up the top weights on the day.

Top man on the day from peg 25 in the wood was Mark Branson with 2.560kg. Mark started on the punch at 10m and caught some quality roach from the start. When bites started to ease off he switched to pinkie over crumb with success, but the telling move came when he caught a nice tench using 6mm soft pellet over a bed of micros fished well across. Big congrats Mark on a well deserved win and 10 club points !

Runner up from 21, also in the wood, was Pete Kingdom with 2.155kg. Pete also had several quality roach on bread punch using a big punch over liquidise and later dropped a worm over some bubbles he had spotted and latched into a decent tench for the icing on the cake. Well done Pete !

Third place from peg 28 was Gary Butler with 1.350kg. Gary's catch comprised 44 small roach and rudd using a combination of bread punch over liquidise in one swim with pinkie over a little ground bait in another. Great result Gary !

Fourth spot went to Ken Penberthy next door on peg 27 with 1.345kg. Ken had lots of small roach and rudd on pinkie plus one nice skimmer. Nice one Ken !

Section Winners

Section A   Russell Hilton   peg 8   1.165kg

Section B   Eric Priest     peg 11   0.920kg

Section C   Paul Blake   peg 26   1.225kg

Points 3   8th March 2026 Minnows

The latest club match held on the canal at Holbrook Bridge was well supported with 29 club anglers turning out on what was a very dank and overcast day. The match was split into 3 sections with pegs 1 to 10 along the Sampford side and 11 to 29 on the Ayshford side of the bridge.

The match was won by probably the most popular winner of all time, Tim Vigus, who was pegged on 3 and weighed in with an unbeatable catch on the day of 2.260kg. Tim caught 5 skimmers, one of which was over a pound, together with 3 perch including, again, one over a pound. Successful bait was double pinkie fished just past middle over ground bait containing chopped worm, maggot and pinkie. He did get the larger perch on the famous Bampton worm. Tim is happy to do coaching lessons at reasonable rates going forward but his Bampton wrigglers are definitely not for sale ! HUGE CONGRATS TIM ON A FAB WIN !

Runner-up on the day was Mark Webber next door on peg 4 in the narrows with 1.640kg. Mark had a few roach on the punch at the start but then moved across to fish the far side using pinkie over ground bait. He managed 6 small skimmers in total plus lots of little roach and rudd.

3rd place went to Martin Heard, next door again on peg 5 with 1.615kg comprising a similar day with roach and skimmers initially on the punch down the middle then switching to far bank with pinkie and maggot over ground bait.

4th spot went to Gary Marshall from peg 19 with 1.600kg. Gary found a shoal of small roach fishing well across with maggot and pinkie over a little crumb. He did find a few perch on worm to help boost his final weight.

Section Winners

Section A   Eric Priest   peg 2   1.550kg

              B   Keith Carpenter   peg 13  1.440kg

              C   Neil Raybould   peg 21   0.905kg

Well done to everyone, it was a really hard day with very little colour in the water.

The next club match is in 3 weeks time on 29th March at Stafford Moor. In a fortnight's time on Saturday 21st is the first King of Clubs qualifier on the canal, details of which will be announced soon.

Points 4 2026

Points 4   29th March 2026 Tanners

Points 4   29th March 2026 Woodpecker

Sunday's club match was held at Stafford Moor with 29 club anglers in attendance. The match was split over two lakes, Tanners and Woodpecker, with the latter providing generally better weights on the day. It was a cold start with both the wind and rain picking up around lunchtime making presentation more difficult -  not to mention everyone's tackle getting a  good soaking once again.

Tanners

Top man on the day from peg 20 was Neil Raybould with 47.625kg. Neil kept it simple and  fished a small method feeder from the start at distance and caught carp steadily throughout the day using micro pellets in conjunction with 8mm pink wafters spiked on a size 14 hook. Well done Neil on a great result !

Runner up from peg 10 was Martin Heard with 45.240kg. Martin fished the corn over 4mm pellet at 13metres for the best part of the match and caught lots of smaller carp.

Third spot went to Graham Colman on peg 16 with 22.125kg. Graham fished the method feeder at distance and used both 8mm pellet and wafter hook baits.

Woodpecker

Winner on Woodpecker was Phil Bailey from peg 20 with 49.485kg. Phil, having tried the feeder without too much luck, switched to a short pole down the margins and caught carp regularly using a bunch of maggots on a size 14 hook all over a bed of 4mm pellets. Great win Phil !

Runner up from peg 1 was Eric Priest with 35kg. Eric had 5 carp in the first hour on the method feeder then switched to the bomb and pellet for the rest of his catch which came mainly in the last two hours.

Third place went to Mike Blake on peg 10 with 34.090kg. Mike started on a small hybrid feeder fished to the island and had 6 carp, then he too switched to bomb and 8mm pellet for the rest of his catch.

Next club match is in two weeks at Lakeside/Little Yeo. Please book in either at the tackle shops or with Phil via text or email.

Points 5 2026

Points 5   12th April 2026 Lakeside

Points 5   12th April 2026 Little Yeo

Yesterday's club match was held across both Little Yeo and Lakeside with 13 anglers drawn at Yeo and 14 at Lakeside. With the recent cold unsettled weather, fishing was hard for most and the blustery wind, coupled with heavy showers on the day, made bait presentation difficult and bites even harder to come by.

Lakeside

Top rod on the day from peg 20 was Mike Blake with 13.250kg. Mike fished the entire match on the pellet feeder loaded with micro pellets with his best hook bait being 8mm yellow wafters. He caught 2 big carp early on followed up by 3 decent skimmers. Great win Mike !

Runner-up from peg 15 was Martin Heard with 12.875kg. After having no bites in open water, Martin switched to the margins using a long pole and caught 6 carp in a foot of water using maggot over micro's.

3rd place went to Ian Brooks on peg 4 with 10.575kg. Successful ploy was to fish the method feeder to the bar where he managed 3 carp and one skimmer bream. Best hook bait was maggot in conjunction with micro pellets.

Little Yeo

Clear winner on the day was Craig Morris from peg 18 with 32.600kg. Craig fished the meat on long pole from the start and caught several fish but as the wind got up he fished short at 5m and continued to catch carp regularly on same. Brilliant win Craig !

Runner up from peg 15 on the island was Phil Bailey with 17.150kg. Phil fished maggot at 11m over ground bait and managed 8 small carp in total.

3rd spot went to Graham Colman on peg 9 with 15.350kg. Graham managed several carp  using a small cage feeder and pellet but switched later to the margin with maggot where he completed his catch.

Next match event is the annual Pairs at Little Yeo; please book in with the Match Sec in the normal way.
