Pairs Match 5th November 2023
Grand Western Canal

Yesterday’s annual Pairs Open was well supported once again with 21 teams turning out to do battle, but the crazy amount of recent rain and wet and windy conditions on the day made catching fish somewhat of a challenge, indeed, there was only a handful of weights breaking the kilo mark. However, some anglers did manage to have a productive day not least of which were the winners, Simon Garbut ( peg 15) with 3.300kg and Chris Parr ( peg 30) with 2.280kg. Simon had a tench amongst his catch whilst Chris had a good skimmer plus numerous roach to give them a winning team score of 5 section points on the day. Congrats Simon and Chris !

Runners-up and just one point behind on 6 section points were Dan Baldwin ( peg 1) with 1.780kg and Russ Hilton (peg 41) with 2.380kg. Dan had a good all-perch catch  on the worm whilst Russ managed a pike with his small roach and perch. Well done guys !

3rd spot went to Ken Penberthy ( peg 16) with 6.250kg comprising tench, bream and a pike or two all caught on the worm. His partner, Brian Sussex (peg 24) had 0.460kg comprising a lot of small roach and perch giving them a total team score of 11 section points. Nice one chaps !

Ray Slack and Keith Carpenter managed 4th overall spot with 14 section points, Ray’s catch included a nice bream, and 5th place went to Ian Williams and Martin Heard with 15 points. Ian had a lovely catch of over 4 kg which included 3 nice tench. Well done to everyone !

The next main event is the club’s Xmas match on 26th November. Tickets are £20 available from Culm Valley Angling and there is a limit of 60 this year so be quick if you want one !

Once again, big thanks to Phil for organizing yesterday’s event.
