Christmas Match 27th November Grand Western Canal
Section and Hamper Winners
Russell Hilton, Sam Williams, Dominic Garnett & Ali Robinson

The club’s Xmas match, held at the Basin yesterday, was attended by 41 anglers and despite low weights due to the recent heavy rains, everyone at least were able to enjoy decent conditions with no rain or winds plus a lack of bright glaring sun. The match was split into 4 sections and prizemoney was awarded to the top 7 on the day plus the top 2 in each section ( individuals couldn’t pick up sections ). There was also an extra bonus on the day of a hamper for each of the 4 outright section winners ( see picture ).

Top rod on the day went to Russell Hilton from peg 8 near broken bridge with 9.600kg. Russ caught 10 good skimmers plus a few perch all on worm on a size 18 hook fished well across on 11m pole over chopped worm. Well done Russell !  Runner up on the day, just two pegs away on peg 10, was Richard Higgs with 3.050kg. Rich managed a bream and a tench together with a few perch all caught on worm and caster fished via long pole over chopped worm and caster.  Not far behind in 3rd spot was Sam Williams with 2.700kg. Sam was on peg 38, half way down the straight from wooden bridge and he caught all his fish on punched bread fished at 8m down the track. He managed 6 skimmers plus a few roach and 2 stray perch. 4TH place went to Ali Robinson from peg 21 with 2.525kg. Starting on the punch over liquidize, Ali soon hooked a good tench early on and managed to land it on light tackle; he followed this up with 20 small roach and a couple of perch.
