Open Pairs Match 2nd November 2025
Grand Western Canal

Sunday's annual Pairs Open was fished along both the Basin and Tidcombe stretches with 19 pairs supporting the event. Conditions were awful with intermittent swathes of wind and rain interrupted by moments of dazzling sunshine, however, there were some good catches of bream plus a few tench along the way.
Winning pair on the day was Paul Carnell and Rich Higgs with a 1st and 3rd in section. Paul drew peg 9 above the canal tea rooms and managed some big bream plus a tench all on worm fished far across. Rich, drawn on peg 38 near the wires at Tidcombe, had some small roach plus a decent tench on worm to top the day off. Big Congrats lads !
Runners-up were Dan Baldwin and Russ Hilton with a 3rd and 2nd in section respectively. Dan on peg 10 had some good skimmers fished far across using worm/pinkie whilst Russ had a couple of big skimmers from peg 26 by Tidcombe gate, again on the worm. Well done chaps !
Third on the day were Pete Kingdom and Ally Robinson with a total of 12 section points. Pete, fishing on peg 8, managed a decent skimmer and a few bits whilst Ally, down at Tidcombe on peg 30 and 2 pegs passed the wires, managed 3 net roach plus 5 small skimmers mainly on the punch. Well done to you guys !
Fourth place went to Martin Heard and Mark Branson, Martin had lots of small skimmers on bread/pinkie whilst fifth place went to Steve Manley ( 2 big bream and a tench all on bread ) and partner Simon Parker. Well done to you all !
Big thanks goes to Julie and Steve at the Canal Tea Rooms for hosting our event, next match is the Xmas Open on Sunday 30th November- tickets on sale shortly at £25 from tackle shops.
