Christmas Match 26th November
Grand Western Canal

Tivvy's annual Xmas match was a 60 peg sell-out yesterday with anglers stretched out in sections of 20 along the GW Canal from Basin to Manley. The weather was fair but fishing was hard following a very hard frost the previous day, however, most anglers managed to catch with over half the competitors weighing over a kilo.

Top angler on the day, from peg 52 just past Warnicombe bridge, was Paul Elworthy with 4.400kg. Paul fished the bread punch over liquidise throughout at two thirds across and managed 12 skimmer bream including 3 big bream plus a few roach. Big congrats Paul on a great win !

Runner-up on the day, from peg 33 by the wires at Tidcombe, was Russell Hilton with 4.040kg. Russell also had 12 skimmers including some decent bream fishing the track using mainly pinkie on a size 20 hook over chopped worm and caster. Well done Russell !

3rd spot went to Ian Williams with 3.150kg. Pegged next to the winner on 51, Ian had most of his fish early on and included around 15 small skimmers plus a few roach, again all on the punch over liquidise. Well done Ian !

In 4th place was John Hill from peg 34 at Tidcombe with 3.020kg. John's catch included some good skimmers using bread and pinkie and he also had a jackpike on the worm to boost his catch. Nice one John !

Darren Polden was 5th with 2.880kg. Darren was on peg 38 and after a few small roach and skimmers managed a big bream to complete the catch which were all caught on the punch. Well done Darren !

6th place went to Dan Baldwin from peg 50 Tivvy side of Warnicombe bridge. Dan weighed in with 2.850kg comprising around 15 small skimmers caught on the punch plus several perch trapped on red squats fished on a size 18 hook over finely chopped worm. Great result Dan !
