Organisers of the club's annual Xmas match were determined to hold it this year, despite the effects of Covid, so what was historically a vibrant, social get-together at Amory park bowling club, was reduced to the bare minimum with both the draw and prize-giving rendered outdoors at the canal basin. However, 49 anglers still came and supported the event which was pegged from Broken bridge to Glebelands. The bad news was that the fish seemed to be still suffering the after-effects of storm Arwen and, incredibly, only 4 anglers broke a kilo out of the whole field.

Winner on the day though, from peg 46 near the steps at Glebelands, was Eric Priest who weighed in with 2.600kg. Eric started off well with 2 small skimmers and a few roach caught on bread punch at 8m over liquidise in the first half hour. This was followed by a half a dozen perch which came on worm and caster at the far bank but the last hour proved decisive when he caught a good skimmer followed by a small jack pike on worm to give a comfortable win.

Runner up from peg 20, 5 pegs past wooden bridge, was Kevin Wilton with 1.800kg. Kevin had several very small roach on the bread punch but then latched into a tench which he managed to land on delicate tackle. Well done Kevin indeed !

3rd on the day was Les Lloyd ( our reigning champ from 2019) with 1.350kg. Les drew peg 12 and caught 3 small skimmer bream on the punch plus a few worm caught perch. Well done Les !

4th was Sam Johnson from peg 40 at Tidcombe with an all-roach catch of 1.210kg,

5th place went to Dave Higgs on peg 29 in Tidcombe bay with 0.950kg whilst 6th place was won by Paul Elworthy from peg 8 with 0.940kg of small roach.  Nice one chaps !

Big thanks also goes to Ali and Julia Robinson for their help in making up the Xmas hampers.

Finally, a grateful thanks goes to Dave and everyone at Culm Valley Angling for sponsoring the Xmas match in the way they have done once again.
