11th Points 25th August 2019 Upper Tamar

22 anglers attended the latest club match held at Tamar yesterday, which, may I add, following recent rain had risen by 8 feet in the past 10 days. The match was pegged along the Devon bank and conditions were flat calm, with most lads in tee shirts; somewhat different to last year's match when everyone had a good drenching from horrendous rain.

Overall winner on the day was Dom Garnett with a weight of 18.125kg. Dominic was pegged on 13, just 3 pegs past the hut, and caught all his fish, mainly roach and perch, using a combination of 3 and 4m whips. He started with maggot on the 3m whip line and caught from the off, feeding groundbait at regular intervals. Later Dom switched to the 4m whip and found a better stamp of roach using caster on a 16 hook. Big congratulations Dominic !

Runner up, from peg 8, near the gorse bush, was Paul Elworthy with 16.100kg. Paul fished a small feeder using hair-rigged corn on a 16 hook with fishmeal groundbait and caught skimmers steadily throughout the 6 hour match. Well done Paul !

In joint 3rd place with a weight of 13.325kg came Bruce Hunt and Stuart Burridge. Bruce was pegged well up into the arm on peg 19 and, having found the short whip to be unsuccessful, caught the fish out in deeper water using a long 7m whip to catch mainly roach on maggot over groundbait. Stuart, on the other hand, pegged on 14 next to the winner, fished a small feeder for the whole match and caught lots of good sized skimmers all on the yellow peril. Well done to both of you !

Remember, this year's prestigious 12-man club match final, to be held in October, will comprise the top ten anglers from the club's points league with the last 2 places being awarded to the winner and runner up of the qualifier planned in for Sept 29th.

Finally, big thanks to the girls at the cafe for laying on a really great breakfast.

See you all at the final club match in 3 weeks time at Lakeside.
