12th Points 15th September 2019 Lakeside
The final points match of the season was held yesterday at Lakeside in blazing sunshine and 18 anglers attended what was a very hard match. More than half the anglers struggled to break a kilo but for those that did, some very nice bream and crucians came to the net.
Winner on the day, by a short head, was Anthony Edwards from permanent peg 4 with 5.400kg. Anthony did the business in the first hour when, as well as a few small roach, he caught a bream and then a small carp fishing a short pole to the lilies using maggot on a size 16 over micro pellet. This was quickly followed up with a second bream caught on 6mm pellet fishing a small feeder to the submerged bar. Well done Anthony !
Runner- up on the day, from peg 10, was Gary Butler who weighed in with 5.160kg. Fishing the point swim, Gary could only manage 8 small roach and perch early on in the match but then, having switched swims, latched into a bream midway through the day on pole fished worm to a 16 hook. He then followed this up with another bream using maggot fishing his original 11m pole line. Nice one Gary !
3rd on the day from peg 16 was Pete Kingdon with 4.840kg. Pete fished a 10m pole to the lilies using maggot over a small amount of groundbait and proceeded to catch small perch and rudd from the off. His bonus fish came late on into the match when a good bream came thankfully to the net. Well done Pete !
1st Phil Bailey 2.750kg ( 3lb tench and good crucian plus perch/roach by lilies all on maggot )
2nd Phil Tucker 1.220kg ( perch and roach on maggot via pole to the margins.)
1st Paul Frost 1.320kg ( roach/perch all caught on maggot via pole to the lilies )
2nd Bruce Hunt 1.280kg ( perch/rudd on pole fished worm/maggot all during the first hour )
Congratulations to Bruce Hunt who came out eventual winner in the hard fought club match series with a total of 81 points. Well done Bruce for winning this for the second year in succession. Close behind in 2nd place was Gary Butler with 76 points with Anthony Edwards in 3rd, also with 76 points but with a lower overall series weight. Well done guys and indeed to the top 10 placings for earning a spot in the prestigious club final which is to be held on 6th October at Morchard Road fishery.
Meanwhile, 2 places to the final are up for grabs with the club's newly instated Top 12 Qualifier arranged for 29th September at Oaktree bottom pond (switched recently from Little Yeo ). Match Secretary, Steve Manley, will be in contact shortly with those eligible anglers.
